Drinking water & water disinfection

Many diseases and infections are transmitted through drinking water. When traveling to the south or to northern regions, there is a risk of drinking contaminated water. This often happens unconsciously, e.g. through water used to brush teeth or freshly washed food such as fruit or salad. The smallest amounts are enough to become infected. The most common pathogens are bacteria, which can cause intestinal infections, flu, salmonella, but also cholera or typhus. Various methods are suitable for water treatment and disinfection:

1. Boil

Time-consuming and energy-intensive, as water needs to be boiled for at least 10 minutes. In addition, boiled water becomes contaminated again relatively quickly.

2. Silver ions

By adding small amounts of silver ions, germs and bacterial deposits are inactivated. Excellent preservation is achieved. Silver ion-based disinfectants are tasteless and easy to store. They take effect after about 1 hour.

3. Silver ions & chlorine

By combining the two components, you achieve even greater protection, as the chlorine kills the bacteria or germs. Unfortunately, this combination is not tasteless. It takes effect after about 30 minutes.

4. mechanical

Water filters disinfect water quickly and easily. Depending on the type of filter, impurities and germs are filtered out. The appropriate type of filter should be selected depending on the application. Activated carbon filters reduce toxins such as pesticides. Ceramic filters direct the water through a porous ceramic that is enriched with silver and prevents bacteria from germinating. Filters with UV lamps destroy the DNA of microorganisms. Optimal water disinfection is achieved by a combination of different filter methods .
